Leadership – Anger
Anger varies in intensity but can be controlled when we work on it.
As a leader you can avoid excessive anger to a reasonable extent through the following:
1. Stay quiet for a while in order to ponder on the issue on ground before you speak.
2. As much as possible resolve issues without taking them too personal.
3. Do some quality delegation when tired so you can rest.
4. Remember that issues can be resolved without being confrontational.
5. Try to be respectful even when angry. Words can be carefully chosen.
6. Know that as a leader you already have authority so you do not need temper to control your team.
7. Exercise your power without being destructive. Do not bang that door when angry, close it gently because you might need to enter in again.
8. Anger provokes low productivity. For high performance and productivity, master your anger.
9. Check the root cause of that anger and deal with it. You can even seek professional help if necessary.
10. It is still important to express your anger but constructively and calmly.
Lead right. Change your anger style.
Leadership – Appraisal
Every Leader should do a self appraisal from time to time, in order to know if the leadership style is stunting peak performance from the team or encouraging high performance. This helps to correct deviations.
Appraisal questions include:
1. Are you setting high standards for your team?
2. Are you leading by example?
3. Are you supportive to your country or team?
4. Are you with your team or against your team?
5. Are you emphatic?
6. Are you intimidating your team?
7. Can your team members seat near you without cringing?
